내 종 갈렙은 그 마음이 그들과 달라서 나를 온전히 따랐은즉 그가 갔던 땅으로 내가 그를 인도하여 들이리니 그의 자손이 그 땅을 차지하리라 민수기 14:24
갈렙은 “전심을 다하는” 사람이었습니다. 갈렙과 여호수아는 약속의 땅을 정탐하고 와서 모세와 백성들에게 보고한 열두 정탐꾼 가운데 속해 있었습니다. 갈렙은 “우리가 곧 올라가서 그 땅을 취하자 능히 이기리라”(민 13:30)라고 말했지만, 나머지 열 명은 그들이 이기지 못할 것이라고 말했습니다. 하나님의 약속에도 불구하고, 그들은 단지 장애물만 보았던 것입니다(31-33절).
그 열 사람은 백성들로 실망케 하고 하나님께 불평하도록 하여 광야에서 40년간 방황하도록 만들었습니다. 그러나 갈렙은 결코 단념하지 않았습니다. 하나님은 “내 종 갈렙은 그 마음이 그들과 달라서 나를 온전히 따랐은즉 그가 갔던 땅으로 내가 그를 인도하여 들이리니 그의 자손이 그 땅을 차지하리라”(14:24)라고 말씀하셨습니다. “그가(갈렙이) 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 온전히 좇았기에”(수 14:14) 45년 후 갈렙이 85세 되던 때, 하나님이 약속을 지키셔서 그는 헤브론 도시를 기업으로 받게 되었습니다.
오랜 세월이 지난 후 한 율법사가 예수님께 “율법 중에 어느 계명이 크니이까”라고 물었습니다. 그때 예수님은 “네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 이것이 크고 첫째 되는 계명이요”(마 22:35-38)라고 대답하셨습니다.
오늘도 갈렙은 우리에게 하나님은 우리의 전심을 다하는 사랑과 신뢰와 헌신을 받으시기에 합당하시다는 그의 확신을 전해주고 있습니다.
• 주님, 오늘도 주님을 전심으로 사랑하고, 이 세상에서의 여정에서 매일 주님을 따르게 해주소서.
그리스도에 대한 헌신은 우리가 매일 받는 소명이다.

26. 바란 광야 가데스에 이르러 모세와 아론과 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중에게 나아와 그들에게 보고하고 그 땅의 과일을 보이고
27. 모세에게 말하여 이르되 당신이 우리를 보낸 땅에 간즉 과연 그 땅에 젖과 꿀이 흐르는데 이것은 그 땅의 과일이니이다
28. 그러나 그 땅 거주민은 강하고 성읍은 견고하고 심히 클 뿐 아니라 거기서 아낙 자손을 보았으며
29. 아말렉인은 남방 땅에 거주하고 헷인과 여부스인과 아모리인은 산지에 거주하고 가나안인은 해변과 요단 가에 거주하더이다
30. 갈렙이 모세 앞에서 백성을 조용하게 하고 이르되 우리가 곧 올라가서 그 땅을 취하자 능히 이기리라 하나
31. 그와 함께 올라갔던 사람들은 이르되 우리는 능히 올라가서 그 백성을 치지 못하리라 그들은 우리보다 강하니라 하고
32. 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 그 정탐한 땅을 악평하여 이르되 우리가 두루 다니며 정탐한 땅은 그 거주민을 삼키는 땅이요 거기서 본 모든 백성은 신장이 장대한 자들이며

23. 내가 그들의 조상들에게 맹세한 땅을 결단코 보지 못할 것이요 또 나를 멸시하는 사람은 한 사람도 그것을 보지 못하리라

Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. Numbers 14:24
Caleb was a “wholehearted” person. He and Joshua were part of a twelve-man reconnaissance team that explored the Promised Land and gave a report to Moses and the people. Caleb said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it” (Num. 13:30). But ten members of the team said they couldn’t possibly succeed. In spite of God’s promises, they saw only obstacles (vv. 31–33).
Ten men caused the people to lose heart and grumble against God, which led to forty years of wandering in the desert. But Caleb never quit. The Lord said, “Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it” (14:24). Forty-five years later God honored His promise when Caleb, at the age of 85, received the city of Hebron “because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly” (Josh. 14:14).
Centuries later an expert in the law asked Jesus, “Which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matt. 22:35–38).
Today Caleb is still inspiring us with his confidence in a God who deserves our wholehearted love, reliance, and commitment. David McCasland

Commitment to Christ is a daily calling.

26. They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land.
27. They gave Moses this account: "We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.
28. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there.
29. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan."
30. Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."
31. But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are."
32. And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.

20. The LORD replied, "I have forgiven them, as you asked.
21. Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely as the glory of the LORD fills the whole earth,
22. not one of the men who saw my glory and the miraculous signs I performed in Egypt and in the desert but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times --
23. not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their forefathers. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it.
24. But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.

하나님께서 애굽과 광야에서 행한 놀라운 이적들을 목격 했으므로 하나님을 전심으로 따르는것은 너무나도 당연한 것이라고 생각됨에도 막상 하나님을 전심으로 따른 자는 오직 갈렙이나 여호수아등 극히 소수에 불과했습니다.
주님께서 다시 오실 때 믿음을 볼 수 있겠느냐라던 말씀이 생각납니다. 주님 뵈올 그때에 칭찬받는 믿음을 갖기를 간절히 소원합니다.
