군중 속 찬양 [ 시편 96:1 - 96:13 ]
그의 영광을 백성들 가운데에, 그의 기이한 행적을 만민 가운데에 선포할지어다 - 시편 96:3
어느 쇼핑몰의 식당 코너에서 사람들이 평소처럼 식사하고 있을 때 갑자기 어떤 사람이 일어서서 용감하게 “할렐루야 합창”을 노래하기 시작했던 유튜브 동영상을 나는 아주 좋아합니다. 놀랍게도 또 다른 사람이 일어나서 합창에 합류하고, 또 계속해서 다른 사람들이 참여했습니다. 순식간에 식당 코너는 헨델의 명곡을 축하하는 화음으로 가득 찼습니다. 쇼핑하며 점심을 먹는 사람들의 일상생활 속에 하나님의 영광을 즐겁게 끼워 넣기 위해 그 지역 오페라 합창단이 중요한 곳곳에 합창단원들을 배치해놓았던 것입니다.
나는 그 영상을 볼 때마다 감동이 되어 눈물이 납니다. 왜냐하면 그리스도를 닮은 모습을 보여주는 아름다운 조화를 통하여 우리가 살고 있는 세상의 일상적인 상황에서 하나님의 영광을 드러내는 것이 우리가 감당하도록 부름 받은 바로 그 일이라는 것을 상기시켜 주기 때문입니다. 하나님의 은혜를 받을 자격이 없지만 새로운 기회가 필요한 상황에 있는 영혼에게 하나님의 은혜가 의도적으로 개입한다고 생각해보십시오. 즉 도움이 필요한 어떤 사람과 예수님의 사랑을 나누는 일, 지치고 힘들어하는 친구들을 일으켜 세워주는 예수님의 손이 되어 주는 일, 또는 혼란스럽고 무질서한 상황에 평화를 가져오는 일 같은 것들 말입니다.
시편기자가 우리에게 일깨워준 바와 같이, “그의 영광을 백성들 가운데에, 그의 기이한 행적을 만민 가운데에 ”(시 96:3) 선포할 수 있는 귀하고도 거룩한 특권이 우리에게 있습니다.
주님, 다른 사람들에게 행동하고 반응하는 우리의 태도를 통하여
주님의 영광을 “군중”에게 나타낼 수 있도록 능력으로
채워주시니 감사합니다. 주님의 기이한 행적들의 놀라운 아름다움을
만나는 모든 이들에게 전달할 수 있는 은혜를 우리에게 허락하소서.
당신을 통해 빛나는 그리스도의 경이로움으로
세상을 깜짝 놀라게 하라!
시편 96:1-13
[1] 새 노래로 여호와께 노래하라 온 땅이여 여호와께 노래할지어다
[2] 여호와께 노래하여 그의 이름을 송축하며 그의 구원을 날마다 전파할지어다
[3] 그의 영광을 백성들 가운데에, 그의 기이한 행적을 만민 가운데에 선포할지어다
[4] 여호와는 위대하시니 지극히 찬양할 것이요 모든 신들보다 경외할 것임이여
[5] 만국의 모든 신들은 우상들이지만 여호와께서는 하늘을 지으셨음이로다
[6] 존귀와 위엄이 그의 앞에 있으며 능력과 아름다움이 그의 성소에 있도다
[7] 만국의 족속들아 영광과 권능을 여호와께 돌릴지어다 여호와께 돌릴지어다
[8] 여호와의 이름에 합당한 영광을 그에게 돌릴지어다 예물을 들고 그의 궁정에 들어갈지어다
[9] 아름답고 거룩한 것으로 여호와께 예배할지어다 온 땅이여 그 앞에서 떨지어다
[10] 모든 나라 가운데서 이르기를 여호와께서 다스리시니 세계가 굳게 서고 흔들리지 않으리라 그가 만민을 공평하게 심판하시리라 할지로다
[11] 하늘은 기뻐하고 땅은 즐거워하며 바다와 거기에 충만한 것이 외치고
[12] 밭과 그 가운데에 있는 모든 것은 즐거워할지로다 그 때 숲의 모든 나무들이 여호와 앞에서 즐거이 노래하리니
[13] 그가 임하시되 땅을 심판하러 임하실 것임이라 그가 의로 세계를 심판하시며 그의 진실하심으로 백성을 심판하시리로다

Public Praise [ Psalms 96:1 - 96:13 ] - hymn550
Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. — Psalm 96:3
I love the YouTube video of people in a food court of a mall, who in the midst of their ordinary lives were suddenly interrupted by someone who stood up and boldly began singing the “Hallelujah Chorus.” To the surprise of everyone, another person got up and joined the chorus, and then another, and another. Soon the food court was resounding with the celebrative harmonies of Handel’s masterpiece. A local opera company had planted their singers in strategic places so that they could joyfully interject the glory of God into the everyday lives of lunching shoppers.
Every time I watch that video, it moves me to tears. It reminds me that bringing the glory of God into the ordinary situations of our world through the beautiful harmonies of Christlikeness is exactly what we are called to do. Think of intentionally interjecting God’s grace into a situation where some undeserving soul needs a second chance; of sharing the love of Christ with someone who is needy; of being the hands of Jesus that lift up a weary friend; or of bringing peace to a confusing and chaotic situation.
As the psalmist reminds us, we have the high and holy privilege of declaring “His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples”(Ps.96:3).
Thank You, Lord, for filling us with the capacity to take
Your glory “public” through the way we act and react
toward others. Give us the grace to interject the surprising
beauty of Your wonderful ways into each encounter.
Surprise your world with the wonders of Christ shining through you!
Psalm 96:1-13
[1] Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! Sing to the LORD, all the earth.
[2] Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
[3] Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.
[4] For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
[5] For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens.
[6] Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
[7] Give to the LORD, O families of the peoples, Give to the LORD glory and strength.
[8] Give to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts.
[9] Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.
[10] Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns; The world also is firmly established, It shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously."
[11] Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
[12] Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the LORD.
[13] For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.
