거의 만족 [ 디모데전서 6:6 - 6:12 ]
있는 바를 족한 줄로 알라 그가 친히 말씀하시기를 내가 결코 너희를 버리지 아니하고 과연 너희를 떠나지 아니하리라 하셨느니라 - 히브리서 13:5
내가 점심식사를 끝내고 식당 주차장으로 막 들어서는데, 작은 트럭 하나가 주차된 차들 사이로 마구 달리는 것을 보았습니다. 운전자의 무분별한 행동을 바라보다가, 그 트럭 앞의 번호판에 어떤 글이 쓰여 있는 것을 보게 되었습니다. “거의 만족”이라는 글이었습니다. 그 글의 의도와 그 글이 전하려고 하는 정서를 생각해보고 나서, 나는 “거의 만족”이라는 개념은 존재하지 않는다는 결론에 도달했습니다. 우리는 만족하거나 또는 만족하지 않거나 둘 중에 하나인 것입니다.
솔직히 말해, 만족하기란 이루기가 참으로 힘든 것입니다. 우리는 점점 커져가는 욕망을 채워주는 세상에 살고 있지만, 그 어느 것으로도 만족할 수 없다는 사실을 깨닫게 됩니다. 그렇지만 이것도 전혀 새로운 사실이 아닙니다. 히브리서는 이 문제에 대해 다음과 같이 말하고 있습니다, “돈을 사랑하지 말고(너희의 행실을 탐욕이 없게 하고) 있는 바를 족한 줄로 알라 그가 친히 말씀하시기를 내가 결코 너희를 버리지 아니하고 너희를 떠나지 아니하리라 하셨느니라”(13:5). “모든 것을 다 원하는” 그 마음을 치료할 수 있는 단 한 가지 처방은 살아계신 하나님 안에서 찾을 수 있는 만족감입니다. 하나님은 우리의 필요와 갈급함을 넉넉히 채워주시며, 그분만이 우리가 추구하는 삶 속에서는 결코 찾을 수 없는 평화와 만족감을 가져다주십니다.
거의 만족? 그런 것은 이 세상에 존재하지 않습니다. 오직 그리스도 안에서만 진정한 만족감이 무엇인지 알 수 있습니다.
구름이나 그림자 그 무엇도 주님의 얼굴을 가리지 못하니
주님의 놀라운 은혜 안에서 만족감을 얻네
내가 감당해야 할 커다란 유혹이 닥쳐올 때
기도할 은밀한 처소를 찾을 수 있네
만족감은 원하는 것을 가질 때가 아니라,
이미 가진 것으로 만족할 때 온다.
디모데전서 6:6-12
[6] 그러나 자족하는 마음이 있으면 경건은 큰 이익이 되느니라
[7] 우리가 세상에 아무 것도 가지고 온 것이 없으매 또한 아무 것도 가지고 가지 못하리니
[8] 우리가 먹을 것과 입을 것이 있은즉 족한 줄로 알 것이니라
[9] 부하려 하는 자들은 시험과 올무와 여러 가지 어리석고 해로운 욕심에 떨어지나니 곧 사람으로 파멸과 멸망에 빠지게 하는 것이라
[10] 돈을 사랑함이 일만 악의 뿌리가 되나니 이것을 탐내는 자들은 미혹을 받아 믿음에서 떠나 많은 근심으로써 자기를 찔렀도다
[11] 오직 너 하나님의 사람아 이것들을 피하고 의와 경건과 믿음과 사랑과 인내와 온유를 따르며
[12] 믿음의 선한 싸움을 싸우라 영생을 취하라 이를 위하여 네가 부르심을 받았고 많은 증인 앞에서 선한 증언을 하였도다

Almost Content? [ 1 Timothy 6:6 - 6:12 ]
Be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Hebrews 13:5
As I stepped into the restaurant parking lot after lunch, I saw a pickup truck speeding through the parked vehicles. While observing the driver’s reckless behavior, I noticed the words on the truck’s front license plate. It read, “Almost Content.” After thinking about that message and the sentiment it tried to communicate, I concluded that the concept “almost content” doesn’t exist. Either we are content or we are not.
Admittedly, contentment is a tough needle to thread. We live in a world that feeds our desire for more and more—until we find it almost impossible to be content with anything. But this is nothing new. The book of Hebrews addressed this issue, saying, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” (13:5). The only remedy for hearts that “want it all” is the contentment found in the presence of the living God. He is sufficient for our needs and longings, and He alone can bring us the peace and contentment we’ll never find in the pursuits of this life.
Almost content? There is no such thing. In Christ we can know true contentment.
I find contentment in His wondrous grace,
No cloud or shadow can obscure His face;
When great temptations I must bear,
I find the secret place of prayer. — Dunlop
Contentment is not getting what we want but being satisfied with what we have.
1 Timothy 6:6-12
[6] Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
[7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
[8] And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
[9] But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
[10] For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
[11] But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
[12] Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
