삶의 유산 A Legacy Life [ 잠언 22:1 - 22:12 ] - 찬송가 455장
많은 재물보다 명예를 택할 것이요 - 잠언 22:1
한 작은 마을의 호텔에 머무르고 있을 때, 길 건너편에 있는 교회에서 예배가 진행 중인 것을 알게 되었습니다. 교회로 들어가려는 사람들의 줄이 남녀노소를 막론하고 길가까지 길게 늘어서 있었습니다. 나는 길가에 세워진 영구차를 보고는 그것이 장례식임을 알았습니다. 그리고 교회에 모인 많은 사람들로 비추어, 어쩌면 부유한 사업가나 유명인사 같은 이 지역의 어떤 위인의 장례식일 것이라고 짐작했습니다. 나는 호기심에 호텔의 접수 직원에게 말했습니다. “장례식에 정말 많은 사람들이 모였네요. 이 마을에서 유명한 분의 장례식임에 틀림없군요.”
그가 대답했습니다. “아뇨. 그는 부자도 유명인사도 아니었지만 좋은 분이셨어요.”
이 일은 나에게 “많은 재물보다 명예를 택할 것이요”(잠 22:1)라는 잠언의 구절을 떠올려주었습니다. 우리가 가족이나 친구, 이웃에게 어떤 유산을 남기고 있는지에 대해 생각해보는 것은 참 좋은 일입니다. 그리고 하나님의 관점에서 정말 중요한 것은 우리의 경력이나 우리가 쌓아온 돈이 아니라, 그보다는 우리가 어떤 종류의 삶을 살았는가 하는 것입니다.
내 친구가 세상을 떠났을 때, 그의 딸이 이렇게 썼습니다. “이 세상은 한 의로운 사람을 잃었습니다. 그리고 이것은 이 세상에서 결코 작은 일이 아닙니다!” 우리가 하나님의 영광을 위해 추구해야 할 유산은 바로 이런 종류의 유산입니다.
주님, 제가 주님을 기쁘게 하고 주님의 이름을 영화롭게 하는 삶을 추구할 수 있도록 도와주소서.
하나님의 영광을 드러내는 유산을 남기는 삶을 살라.
잠언 22:1–12
[1] 많은 재물보다 명예를 택할 것이요 은이나 금보다 은총을 더욱 택할 것이니라
[2] 가난한 자와 부한 자가 함께 살거니와 그 모두를 지으신 이는 여호와시니라
[3] 슬기로운 자는 재앙을 보면 숨어 피하여도 어리석은 자는 나가다가 해를 받느니라
[4] 겸손과 여호와를 경외함의 보상은 재물과 영광과 생명이니라
[5] 패역한 자의 길에는 가시와 올무가 있거니와 영혼을 지키는 자는 이를 멀리 하느니라
[6] 마땅히 행할 길을 아이에게 가르치라 그리하면 늙어도 그것을 떠나지 아니하리라
[7] 부자는 가난한 자를 주관하고 빚진 자는 채주의 종이 되느니라
[8] 악을 뿌리는 자는 재앙을 거두리니 그 분노의 기세가 쇠하리라
[9] 선한 눈을 가진 자는 복을 받으리니 이는 양식을 가난한 자에게 줌이니라
[10] 거만한 자를 쫓아내면 다툼이 쉬고 싸움과 수욕이 그치느니라
[11] 마음의 정결을 사모하는 자의 입술에는 덕이 있으므로 임금이 그의 친구가 되느니라
[12] 여호와의 눈은 지식 있는 사람을 지키시나 사악한 사람의 말은 패하게 하시느니라
A Legacy Life

A good name is more desirable than great riches. - Proverbs 22:1
While staying in a hotel in a small town I noticed that the church across the street was having a service. People were jammed into the church with a standing-room-only crowd of both young and old flowing out onto the sidewalk. When I noticed a hearse by the curb, I realized it was a funeral. And given the crowd, I assumed that it was the celebration of the life of some local hero—perhaps a wealthy businessperson or a famous personality. Curious, I said to the desk clerk, “That’s an amazing turnout for a funeral; it must be for a famous person in town.”
“No,” he replied. “He wasn’t rich or famous but he was a good man.”
This reminded me of the wisdom of the proverb that says, “A good name is more desirable than great riches”(Prov.22:1). It’s a good idea to think about what kind of legacy we are leaving for our family, friends, and neighbors. From God’s perspective it’s not our resumé or the amount of money we’ve accumulated that matters but rather the kind of life we have lived.
When a friend of mine passed away, his daughter wrote, “This world has lost a righteous man and in this world that is no small thing!” It’s that kind of legacy that we should be seeking for the glory of God.
Lord, help me to pursue a life that is pleasing to You and honors Your name.
Live to leave a legacy for God’s glory.
Proverbs 22:1–12
[1] A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.
[2] The rich and the poor have this in common, The LORD is the maker of them all.
[3] A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple pass on and are punished.
[4] By humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches and honor and life.
[5] Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them.
[6] Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
[7] The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender.
[8] He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow, And the rod of his anger will fail.
[9] He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.
[10] Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave; Yes, strife and reproach will cease.
[11] He who loves purity of heart And has grace on his lips, The king will be his friend.
[12] The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, But He overthrows the words of the faithless.

While staying in a hotel in a small town I noticed that the church across the street was having a service.
