거만과 교만 [ 잠언 8:12 - 8:21 ] -
나는 교만과 거만과 악한 행실과 패역한 입을 미워하느니라 - 잠언 8:13
C.S 루이스가 쓴 『스크루테이프의 편지』라는 책에는, 선임 마귀가 그의 젊은 심복 마귀를 재촉하여 한 그리스도인의 생각을 하나님으로부터 돌리고, 대신 교회에서 자기 주변에 있는 사람들의 허물에 집중하도록 하는 장면이 나옵니다.
주일예배 시간에, 나는 내 곁에서 틀린 음정으로 큰 목소리로 찬송가를 부르고, 성경을 같이 봉독할 때도 보조를 맞추지 못하는 어떤 사람 때문에 주의를 빼앗기고 다소 짜증이 나 있었습니다. 그런데 우리가 고개를 숙여 조용히 기도하는 시간에, 주님은 다른 사람을 비판하고 있는 내 속마음보다는 분명히 그 사람의 마음을 더 기뻐하실 것이라는 생각이 번쩍 들었습니다.
며칠 후 나는 우연히 잠언 8장을 읽다가 13절 말씀에 충격을 받았습니다. “나는 교만과 거만과 악한 행실과 패역한 입을 미워하느니라.” 8장 전체를 통해 지혜는 우리로 하여금 마음이 밝으라 하고(5절) 생명을 얻고 여호와께 은총을 입으라고 합니다(35절). 그렇지 않으면 속은 죽어 가는데 우월의식을 갖고 살아가게 됩니다(36절).
교만은 칼과 같아서 상대방뿐 아니라 교만을 부리는 자신에게도 상처를 줍니다. 거만은 하나님이 우리에게 주시기를 원하는 것들을 다 빼앗아갑니다. 그러나 “겸손과 여호와를 경외함의 보상은 재물과 영광과 생명”입니다(22:4).
주여, 주님의 온유함을 한 조각 지니게 하사
스스로를 자랑함을 멈추게 하소서
주님의 은총 안에서 내 영광과 힘을 찾게 하시고
내가 약할 때 주님의 은혜가 최대한 임하는 줄 알게 하소서
교만은 수치를 불러오지만, 겸손은 지혜를 불러온다.
잠언 8:12-21
[12] 나 지혜는 명철로 주소를 삼으며 지식과 근신을 찾아 얻나니
[13] 여호와를 경외하는 것은 악을 미워하는 것이라 나는 교만과 거만과 악한 행실과 패역한 입을 미워하느니라
[14] 내게는 계략과 참 지식이 있으며 나는 명철이라 내게 능력이 있으므로
[15] 나로 말미암아 왕들이 치리하며 방백들이 공의를 세우며
[16] 나로 말미암아 재상과 존귀한 자 곧 모든 의로운 재판관들이 다스리느니라
[17] 나를 사랑하는 자들이 나의 사랑을 입으며 나를 간절히 찾는 자가 나를 만날 것이니라
[18] 부귀가 내게 있고 장구한 재물과 공의도 그러하니라
[19] 내 열매는 금이나 정금보다 나으며 내 소득은 순은보다 나으니라
[20] 나는 정의로운 길로 행하며 공의로운 길 가운데로 다니나니
[21] 이는 나를 사랑하는 자가 재물을 얻어서 그 곳간에 채우게 하려 함이니라

Arrogance And Pride [ Proverbs 8:12 - 8:21 ]
Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate. — Proverbs 8:13
In The Screwtape Letters written by C. S. Lewis, a senior devil urges his young protege to divert a Christian’s thoughts away from God and focus instead on the faults of the people around him at church.
During a Sunday service, I found myself distracted and somewhat annoyed by a person near me who sang loudly off key and was out of sync during the unison readings. But when we bowed our heads for a time of silent prayer, it struck me that the Lord must surely be more pleased with that other person’s heart than with the judgmental feelings He saw in mine.
A few days later I happened to read Proverbs 8 and was struck by verse 13: “Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.” Throughout this chapter, wisdom calls to us to gain an understanding heart(v.5) and to fi-nd life and obtain favor from the Lord(v.35). The alternative is to go through life with a superior attitude while dying inside in the process(v.36).
Pride is a sword that wounds the person who uses it along with those against whom it is used. Arrogance robs us of all God longs to give us, but “by humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life”(22:4). — David McCasland

Pride brings shame. Humility brings wisdom.
Proverbs 8:12-21
[12] "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.
[13] To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
[14] Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power.
[15] By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just;
[16] by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth.
[17] I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.
[18] With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.
[19] My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver.
[20] I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice,
[21] bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.
