도로공사 [ 예레미야 31:31 - 31:34 ]
이제는 우리가…율법에서 벗어났으니 이러므로 우리가 영의 새로운 것으로 섬길 것이요 - 로마서 7:6
이곳 미시간에는 계절이 둘 밖에 없다고 농담들을 합니다. 하나는 겨울이고 다른 하나는 도로공사입니다. 혹독한 겨울을 거치면서 도로면이 손상되기 때문에, 얼음이 녹고 땅이 풀리자마자 복구대원들이 작업을 시작합니다. 우리는 이 작업을 “건설공사”라고 하지만, 사실 그들이 하는 작업의 대부분은 “파괴”하는 것처럼 보입니다. 어떤 경우에는 단순히 구멍을 때우는 것으로는 되지 않아서 이전 도로를 새 도로로 바꾸어야 합니다.
하나님이 우리 삶에 역사하실 때에도 바로 그렇게 느껴집니다. 구약 전체를 통해 하나님은 그의 백성들에게 하나님과 그들 사이에 중대한 복구공사가 이루어질 것을 기대하라고 말씀하셨습니다(사 62:10-11; 렘 31:31). 하나님이 예수님을 보내셨을 때, 유대인들에게는 마치 하나님께 가는 길이 파괴되는 것처럼 느꼈습니다. 그러나 예수님은 아무것도 파괴하지 않으시고, 그 길을 완성하고 계셨습니다(마 5:17). 율법으로 포장된 옛 도로가 예수님의 희생적인 사랑으로 포장된 새 길이 되었습니다.
하나님은 죄악과 율법주의의 옛길을, 예수님이 완성하신 사랑의 길로 교체하는 작업을 아직도 하고 계십니다. 하나님이 우리의 생각과 행동의 옛 방식을 제거하실 때, 우리에게는 익숙한 모든 것이 파괴되는 것처럼 느낄 수도 있습니다. 그러나 하나님은 어느 것도 파괴하지 않고, 오히려 더 좋은 길을 만들고 계십니다. 그 결과로 우리는 다른 사람들과의 관계가 더 원만해지고 하나님과 더 가까운 교제를 가지게 될 것을 확신할 수 있습니다.
율법에서 벗어났으니 얼마나 기쁜 일인가!
예수님이 흘리신 피, 죄 사함이 되었네
율법으로 저주 받고 타락으로 상처 입은 우리
그 은혜로 말미암아 단번에 구속되었네
격변이 있은 후에는 보통 영적성장이 뒤따른다.
예레미야 31:31-34
[31] 여호와의 말씀이니라 보라 날이 이르리니 내가 이스라엘 집과 유다 집에 새 언약을 맺으리라
[32] 이 언약은 내가 그들의 조상들의 손을 잡고 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내던 날에 맺은 것과 같지 아니할 것은 내가 그들의 남편이 되었어도 그들이 내 언약을 깨뜨렸음이라 여호와의 말씀이니라
[33] 그러나 그 날 후에 내가 이스라엘 집과 맺을 언약은 이러하니 곧 내가 나의 법을 그들의 속에 두며 그들의 마음에 기록하여 나는 그들의 하나님이 되고 그들은 내 백성이 될 것이라 여호와의 말씀이니라
[34] 그들이 다시는 각기 이웃과 형제를 가리켜 이르기를 너는 여호와를 알라 하지 아니하리니 이는 작은 자로부터 큰 자까지 다 나를 알기 때문이라 내가 그들의 악행을 사하고 다시는 그 죄를 기억하지 아니하리라 여호와의 말씀이니라

Road Construction [ Jeremiah 31:31 - 31:34 ]
We have been delivered from the law, . . . so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit. —Romans 7:6
Here in Michigan we joke that we have two seasons: winter and road construction. Harsh winters damage road surfaces, so repair crews begin their work as soon as the ice melts and the ground thaws. Although we call this work “construction,” much of what they do looks like “destruction.” In some cases, simply patching holes is not an option. Workers have to re-place the old road with a new one.
That’s what it can feel like when God is at work in our lives. Throughout the Old Testament, God told His people to expect some major renovation on the road between Him and them (Isa. 62:10-11; Jer. 31:31). When God sent Jesus, it seemed to the Jews as if their way to God was being destroyed. But Jesus wasn’t destroying anything. He was completing it (Matt. 5:17). The old way paved with laws became a new way paved with the sacrificial love of Jesus.
God is still at work replacing old ways of sin and legalism with the way of love that Jesus completed. When He removes our old ways of thinking and behaving, it may feel as if everything familiar is being destroyed. But God is not destroying anything; He is building a better way. Jeremiah 31:31-34
[31] "The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
[32] It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them," declares the LORD.
[33] "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
[34] No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
