욕심 많은 새들 [ 고린도후서 9:6 - 9:15 ]
하나님이 능히 모든 은혜를 너희에게 넘치게 하시나니 이는 너희로…모든 착한 일을 넘치게 하게 하려 하심이라 - 고린도후서 9:8
해마다 내가 벌새 모이통을 내놓을 즈음이 되면 그 바쁜 작은 새들은 자리를 잡기 위해 싸움을 시작합니다. 그 ‘식탁’에 모이를 쪼아 먹을 자리가 네 군데나 있어도, 새들은 여전히 다른 새들이 차지하고 있는 자리를 잡으려고 싸웁니다. 각각의 자리에 있는 모이는 모이통 바닥에 있는 시럽 용기에서 나오는 똑같은 것입니다. 모이를 먹는 곳이 다 똑같다는 것을 아는 나는 그 새들의 욕심에 고개를 젓습니다.
하지만 그때 왜 그 새들의 욕심은 쉽게 보면서 나 자신의 욕심은 보기 어려울까 하는 질문이 떠올랐습니다. 모든 선한 일이 하나님으로부터 나온다는 것을 이미 알고 있고, 그분의 공급은 절대로 바닥나지 않는다는 것을 알고 있으면서도, 나는 종종 ‘하나님의 식탁’에서 다른 사람이 차지한 자리를 원합니다. 하나님은 심지어 우리 원수의 목전에서도 우리를 위해 상을 베푸시는데(시 23:5), 왜 다른 사람들이 우리가 원하는 삶의 자리를 차지할까 걱정을 할까요
우리가 항상 “모든 것이 넉넉하여 모든 착한 일을 넘치게” 할 수 있도록 주님은 우리에게 “모든 은혜를 넘치게” 주실 수 있습니다(고후 9:8). 우리가 하나님의 은혜를 맡은 청지기로서 우리 일의 중요성을 인식할 때(벧전 4:10), 우리는 다른 사람의 자리를 가로채려는 싸움을 그만두고, 주님을 대신해서 다른 사람들을 섬길 수 있도록 우리에게 주어진 자리에 감사하게 될 것입니다.
다른 사람들을 섬김으로써 주님을 섬길 수 있게 해주신 특권을
우리에게 허락하시니 감사합니다. 주님, 우리에게
허락하신 자리를 채우는 데 만족할 수 있게 도와주시고,
그럼으로써 우리를 통해 영광을 받으소서.
분노는 다른 사람들을 바라보는 데서 나오지만,
만족은 하나님을 바라보는 데서 나온다.
고린도후서 9:6-15
[6] 이것이 곧 적게 심는 자는 적게 거두고 많이 심는 자는 많이 거둔다 하는 말이로다
[7] 각각 그 마음에 정한 대로 할 것이요 인색함으로나 억지로 하지 말지니 하나님은 즐겨 내는 자를 사랑하시느니라
[8] 하나님이 능히 모든 은혜를 너희에게 넘치게 하시나니 이는 너희로 모든 일에 항상 모든 것이 넉넉하여 모든 착한 일을 넘치게 하게 하려 하심이라
[9] 기록한 바 그가 흩어 가난한 자들에게 주었으니 그의 의가 영원토록 있느니라 함과 같으니라
[10] 심는 자에게 씨와 먹을 양식을 주시는 이가 너희 심을 것을 주사 풍성하게 하시고 너희 의의 열매를 더하게 하시리니
[11] 너희가 모든 일에 넉넉하여 너그럽게 연보를 함은 그들이 우리로 말미암아 하나님께 감사하게 하는 것이라
[12] 이 봉사의 직무가 성도들의 부족한 것만 보충할 뿐 아니라 사람들이 하나님께 드리는 많은 감사로 말미암아 넘쳤느니라
[13] 이 직무로 증거를 삼아 너희가 그리스도의 복음을 진실히 믿고 복종하는 것과 그들과 모든 사람을 섬기는 너희의 후한 연보로 말미암아 하나님께 영광을 돌리고
[14] 또 그들이 너희를 위하여 간구하며 하나님이 너희에게 주신 지극한 은혜로 말미암아 너희를 사모하느니라
[15] 말할 수 없는 그의 은사로 말미암아 하나님께 감사하노라

Greedy Birds [ 2 Corinthians 9:6 - 9:15 ]
God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you ... may have an abundance for every good work. — 2 Corinthians 9:8
Every year when I put out the hummingbird feeder, the busy little birds start battling for position. Even though there are four places at the “table,” the birds fight for whatever place one of their neighbors is using. The source of food at each place is the same-a reservoir of syrup in the bottom of the feeder. Knowing that all the feeding stations are equal, I shake my head at their greediness.
But then I wonder, Why is it so much easier to see the greed of the birds than it is to see my own? I often want the place at “God’s table” that someone else has, even though I know all good things come from the same source-God-and that His supply will never run out. Since God can prepare a table for us even in the presence of our enemies (Ps.23:5), why be concerned that someone else might have the station in life that we want?
The Lord is able to give us “all sufficiency in all things” so that we will have “an abundance for every good work”(2 Cor.9:8). When we recognize the importance of our work as ministers of the grace of God (1 Peter 4:10), we’ll stop fighting to take over someone else’s position and be grateful for the place God has given us to serve others on His behalf. — Julie Ackerman Link

the place where You have put us, so that
You might be glorified through us.
Resentment comes from looking at others;
contentment comes from looking at God.
2 Corinthians 9:6-15
[6] But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
[7] So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
[8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
[9] As it is written: "He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever."
[10] Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness,
[11] while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.
[12] For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God,
[13] while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men,
[14] and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you.
