강해지기 위한 연단 [ 고린도후서 12:1 - 12:10 ]
내 능력이 약한 데서 온전하여짐이라 - 고린도후서 12:9
다이아몬드는 아름답고 귀한 보석이지만, 그것은 우리가 흔히 볼 수 있는 시꺼멓고 더럽고, 불이 잘 붙는 탄소로부터 시작됩니다. 긴 세월 동안 고열과 높은 압력을 견뎌내어 순수하고 강하게 변화되는 것입니다. 그래서 다이아몬드는 강한 영성을 비유하는 데 쓰이기도 합니다. 하나님은 외부의 강력한 힘들을 사용하셔서 우리 속의 더러움을 없애고 주님의 능력이 우리 안에서 온전해지도록 하십니다.
바울사도는 하나님의 능력이 우리의 연약함 속에서 온전해진다고 말합니다(고후 12:9). 나는 약해지는 것을 싫어하기 때문에 이 말씀이 사실이 아니었으면 합니다. 화학요법과 방사선치료는 내 육체의 연약함에 대해서 내가 알려고 했던 것보다 훨씬 많은 것을 가르쳐주었습니다. 그런데 별 것 아닌 일로 인해 나는 심리적으로 나약해 졌으며, 이는 전혀 예상치 못한 일이었습니다. 1미터나 되던 머리카락이 빠지고 민머리가 된 지 거의 일 년이 된 상태이기에, 머리를 한 번 잘못 깎았다고 큰 문제가 될 일은 아니었습니다. 그러나 사실은 그렇지를 못했고, 그렇게 나약해진 나 자신이 어리석게 여겨졌습니다. 우리 중 어떤 사람은 강하고 남부러울 것 없는 사람처럼 보이며 살 수 있습니다. 그러나 갑자기 건강이나 직업, 또는 소중한 인간관계를 잃게 되면 하나님께 온전히 의지해야 함을 새삼스럽게 상기하게 됩니다.
우리가 뜨거운 용광로와 같은 고난을 겪게 될 때, 그것이 육체적이든 정신적이든, 또는 외부로부터의 핍박이든 마음속의 수치이든 간에, 하나님의 사랑의 목적은 우리를 순수하고 강하게 연단시키는 데 있습니다.
하나님은 우리를 정결케 하시기 위해
우리 인생을 연단시키시고,
우리의 능력은 저절로 있는 게 아니라
하나님 안에서 나온 것임을 가르쳐주시네
고난은 우리를 순수하고 강하게 하기 위해
하나님이 사용하시는 불이다.
고린도후서 12:1-10
[1] 무익하나마 내가 부득불 자랑하노니 주의 환상과 계시를 말하리라
[2] 내가 그리스도 안에 있는 한 사람을 아노니 그는 십사 년 전에 셋째 하늘에 이끌려 간 자라 (그가 몸 안에 있었는지 몸 밖에 있었는지 나는 모르거니와 하나님은 아시느니라)
[3] 내가 이런 사람을 아노니 (그가 몸 안에 있었는지 몸 밖에 있었는지 나는 모르거니와 하나님은 아시느니라)
[4] 그가 낙원으로 이끌려 가서 말로 표현할 수 없는 말을 들었으니 사람이 가히 이르지 못할 말이로다
[5] 내가 이런 사람을 위하여 자랑하겠으나 나를 위하여는 약한 것들 외에 자랑하지 아니하리라
[6] 내가 만일 자랑하고자 하여도 어리석은 자가 되지 아니할 것은 내가 참말을 함이라 그러나 누가 나를 보는 바와 내게 듣는 바에 지나치게 생각할까 두려워하여 그만두노라
[7] 여러 계시를 받은 것이 지극히 크므로 너무 자만하지 않게 하시려고 내 육체에 가시 곧 사탄의 사자를 주셨으니 이는 나를 쳐서 너무 자만하지 않게 하려 하심이라
[8] 이것이 내게서 떠나가게 하기 위하여 내가 세 번 주께 간구하였더니
[9] 나에게 이르시기를 내 은혜가 네게 족하도다 이는 내 능력이 약한 데서 온전하여짐이라 하신지라 그러므로 도리어 크게 기뻐함으로 나의 여러 약한 것들에 대하여 자랑하리니 이는 그리스도의 능력이 내게 머물게 하려 함이라
[10] 그러므로 내가 그리스도를 위하여 약한 것들과 능욕과 궁핍과 박해와 곤고를 기뻐하노니 이는 내가 약한 그 때에 강함이라

Hard Way To Strength [ 2 Corinthians 12:1 - 12:10 ]
My strength is made perfect in weakness. — 2 Corinthians 12:9
Diamonds are beautiful and valuable gemstones, but their beginning is common carbon─black, dirty, and combustible. Through years of intense heat and high pressure, they become pure and strong. This makes them a good metaphor for spiritual strength; God uses intense outside forces to rid us of impurities and to perfect His strength in us.
God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness, says the apostle Paul (2 Cor.12:9). I wish this were not true because I hate being weak. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments taught me more than I ever wanted to know about physical weakness. Then a minor event plunged me into a state of emotional weakness that caught me off guard. After losing 3 feet of hair and being bald for nearly a year, one bad haircut should not have been a big deal. But it was, and I felt silly for being so weak. Some of us are able to create an illusion of strength and self-sufficiency. But sudden loss of health, employment, or a treasured relationship is a startling reminder of our total dependence on God.
When we experience the fiery furnace of suffering─whether physical or emotional, whether persecution from without or humiliation from within─God’s loving purpose is to make us pure and strong. — Julie Ackerman Link
God uses testing in our lives
To rid us of impurity
And teach us that our strength’s in Him
And not in self-sufficiency. — Sper
Suffering is the fire that God uses to
purify and strengthen us.
2 Corinthians 12:1-10
[1] I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord.
[2] I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know--God knows.
[3] And I know that this man--whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows--
[4] was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.
[5] I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses.
[6] Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say.
[7] To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
[8] Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
[9] But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
[10] That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
