넘치는 축복 [ 시편 107:1 - 107:8 ]
여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기적으로 말미암아 그를 찬송할지로다-시편 107:8
매일 출퇴근길에 나는 자동차 범퍼에 붙어 있는 스티커들을 많이 읽게 됩니다. 퉁명스럽거나 재치 있는 것도 있지만, 철저히 혐오감을 주는 것들도 있습니다. 그러나 최근에 본 한 범퍼 스티커는 삶을 사는 방식에 대하여 내 마음에 조용히 도전을 주었습니다. 그 스티커에는 “넘치는 축복을 받아 불평할 수 없다.”라고 간단하게 쓰여 있었습니다.
나는 그 말을 깊이 생각하면서 죄책감을 느꼈다고 고백할 수밖에 없습니다. 나는 하나님 아버지께서 주신 놀라운 선물들에 초점을 맞추기 보다는, 삶이 내 마음대로 안 될 때에 슬퍼하는 나 자신을 너무나 많이 봅니다. 그날 그 단순한 메시지를 읽으면서, 나는 하나님이 나에게 헤아릴 수 없을 만큼 좋은 것을 많이 주셨기에, 더 적극적으로 더 의식적으로 감사해야겠다는 새로운 결심을 하게 되었습니다.
시편 107편은 감사할 줄 모르는 생각을 고치도록 하려는 노래입니다. 많은 사람이 다윗 왕이라고 생각하는 이 시편의 기자는 감사할 줄 모르는 차가운 마음에 네 번이나 이렇게 반복해서 호소합니다. “여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기적으로 말미암아 그를 찬송할지로다”(8,15,21,31절). 가장 어려운 때에도 우리에겐 많은 감사의 제목이 있습니다. 하나님이 우리에게 행하신 선하심을 인하여 하나님께 감사하기를 배울 수 있기를 바랍니다!

Too Blessed [ Psalms 107:1 - 107:8 ]
Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! — Psalm 107:8
On my daily commute to and from the office, I have plenty of time for reading─bumper stickers on cars, that is. Some are surly, others clever, and still others downright distasteful. One bumper sticker I saw recently, however, gently challenged my heart about the way I often engage life. The sticker simply said, “Too blessed to complain.”
I must confess that I felt convicted as I pondered those words. Too often I fi-nd myself lamenting moments in life that don’t go my way, rather than focusing on the wonderful gifts my heavenly Father has given me. Reading that simple message that day brought me a renewed commitment to be more actively and intentionally grateful because my God has been good to me in more ways than I could ever count.
Psalm 107 is a song that seeks to rectify thankless thinking. The psalmist (who many think was King David) makes a plea to hearts grown cold with ingratitude, repeating four times, “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!”(vv.8,15,21,31). Even in the worst of times, we have much to be thankful for. May we learn to thank God for His goodness to us! — Bill Crowder

[1] Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
[2] Let the redeemed of the LORD say this--those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
[3] those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
[4] Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.
[5] They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.
[6] Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
[7] He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.
[8] Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
