그 때에 여호와를 경외하는 자들이 피차에 말하매 여호와께서 그것을 분명히 들으시고 말라기 3:16
리는 부지런하고 믿을 만한 은행원입니다. 하지만, 자신의 믿음의 삶을 살기 위해 자주 눈에 띄는 행동을 하는 자신을 발견하곤 합니다. 그것은 쉬는 시간 휴게실에서 부적절한 대화들이 오고갈 때 그 자리를 뜨는 것과 같은 구체화된 행동으로 나타납니다. 성경공부시간에 그는 친구들에게 “내가 사람들과 잘 어울리지 않아서 승진 기회를 놓칠까 두려워.”라고 말했습니다.
말라기 선지자의 시대에도 믿는 사람들은 비슷한 어려움에 직면했습니다. 그들은 유배생활에서 돌아와 성전을 재건했지만, 그들의 미래에 대한 하나님의 계획에는 회의적이었습니다. 어떤 이스라엘 사람들은 이렇게 말했습니다. “하나님을 섬기는 것이 헛되니 만군의 여호와 앞에서 그 명령을 지키며 슬프게 행하는 것이 무엇이 유익하리요 지금 우리는 교만한 자가 복되다 하며 악을 행하는 자가 번성하며 하나님을 시험하는 자가 화를 면한다 하노라”(말 3:14-15).
남들과 잘 어울리지 않으면 손해를 볼 것이라고 말하는 문화에서 어떻게 우리가 하나님을 위해 굳건하게 설 수 있을까요? 말라기 시대에 살았던 신실한 사람들은 그들과 같은 생각을 가진 다른 믿는 사람들과 만나 서로를 격려하며 그 난관에 대응했습니다. 그리고 말라기는 “여호와께서 분명히 들으셨다”(16절)라는 중요한 정보를 우리에게 전해줍니다.
하나님은 그분을 경외하는 사람들을 아시고 돌보십니다. 그분은 우리에게 “어울리라”고 하지 않으시고 우리가 서로 격려하며 그분께 매일 더 가까워지라고 하십니다. 계속 충성합시다!
• 주님, 이 믿음 없는 세상에서 주님께 충성할 수 있도록 서로를 계속 격려할 수 있게 도와주소서.
하나님의 신실하심을 믿을 수 있도록 우리의 믿음이 시험을 받기도 한다.
13. 여호와가 이르노라 너희가 완악한 말로 나를 대적하고도 이르기를 우리가 무슨 말로 주를 대적하였나이까 하는도다
14. 이는 너희가 말하기를 하나님을 섬기는 것이 헛되니 만군의 여호와 앞에서 그 명령을 지키며 슬프게 행하는 것이 무엇이 유익하리요
15. 지금 우리는 교만한 자가 복되다 하며 악을 행하는 자가 번성하며 하나님을 시험하는 자가 화를 면한다 하노라 함이라
16. 그 때에 여호와를 경외하는 자들이 피차에 말하매 여호와께서 그것을 분명히 들으시고 여호와를 경외하는 자와 그 이름을 존중히 여기는 자를 위하여 여호와 앞에 있는 기념책에 기록하셨느니라
17. 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 나는 내가 정한 날에 그들을 나의 특별한 소유로 삼을 것이요 또 사람이 자기를 섬기는 아들을 아낌 같이 내가 그들을 아끼리니
18. 그 때에 너희가 돌아와서 의인과 악인을 분별하고 하나님을 섬기는 자와 섬기지 아니하는 자를 분별하리라

Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. Malachi 3:16
Lee is a diligent and reliable bank employee. Yet he often finds himself sticking out like a sore thumb for living out his faith. This reveals itself in practical ways, such as when he leaves the break room during an inappropriate conversation. At a Bible study, he shared with his friends, “I fear that I’m losing promotion opportunities for not fitting in.”
Believers during the prophet Malachi’s time faced a similar challenge. They had returned from exile and the temple had been rebuilt, but there was skepticism about God’s plan for their future. Some of the Israelites were saying, “It is futile to serve God. What do we gain by carrying out his requirements . . . ? But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly evildoers prosper, and even when they put God to the test, they get away with it”(Malachi 3:14–15).
How can we stand firm for God in a culture that tells us we will lose out if we don’t blend in? The faithful in Malachi’s time responded to that challenge by meeting with like-minded believers to encourage each other. Malachi shares this important detail with us: “The Lord listened and heard”(v. 16).
God notices and cares for all who fear and honor Him. He doesn’t call us to “fit in” but to draw closer to Him each day as we encourage each other. Let’s stay faithful! Poh Fang Chia
• Lord, help us to keep on encouraging one another to stay faithful to You in this faithless world.
Our faith may be tested so that we may trust God’s faithfulness.
13. "You have said harsh things against me," says the LORD. "Yet you ask, `What have we said against you?'
14. "You have said, `It is futile to serve God. What did we gain by carrying out his requirements and going about like mourners before the LORD Almighty?
15. But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly the evildoers prosper, and even those who challenge God escape.'"
16. Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name.
17. "They will be mine," says the LORD Almighty, "in the day when I make up my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him.
18. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.
