무명의 영웅들 Unseen Heroes [ 출애굽기 17:8 - 17:15 ] - 찬송가 450장
아론과 훌이 한 사람은 이쪽에서, 한 사람은 저쪽에서 모세의 손을 붙들어 올렸더니 그 손이 해가 지도록 내려오지 아니한지라  출애굽기 17:12
 
성경의 어떤 이야기들은 우리로 잠시 멈추어 생각하게 합니다. 예를 들면 모세가 하나님의 백성을 약속의 땅으로 인도할 때 아말렉 족속이 공격하였는데, 어떻게 그가 산꼭대기로 올라가 하나님의 지팡이를 붙잡을 것을 알았을까요?(출 17:8-15). 성경이 그것에 대해 말해주지는 않지만, 그가 손을 들었을 때는 이스라엘이 이기고 손을 내렸을 때는 아말렉이 승리한 것은 압니다. 모세가 피곤해졌을 때 그의 형 아론과 다른 사람 훌이 모세의 팔을 들어 올려 이스라엘이 이기도록 했습니다.
훌에 대해 알려진 바는 별로 없지만, 그는 이스라엘 역사의 그 시점에서 매우 중요한 역할을 감당했습니다. 이 사실은 보이지 않는 영웅들이 중요하다는 것과, 지도자들을 돕거나 용기를 주는 사람들이 중요한 역할을 하지만 그것이 종종 간과된다는 것을 우리에게 보여줍니다. 지도자들은 흔히 역사책에 언급되거나 소셜 미디어에서 찬미를 받지만, 하나님은 다른 방법으로 조용하고 신실하게 섬기는 사람들의 모습도 빠뜨리지 않고 보고 계십니다. 주님은 가족과 친구를 위해 매일 중보기도 하는 사람을 보고 계시고, 주일마다 교회에서 의자를 치우는 자매를 보고 계십니다. 또한 주님은 찾아가 격려의 말을 전하는 이웃도 보고 계십니다.
우리의 역할이 하찮게 여겨질지라도, 하나님은 우리를 사용하고 계십니다. 그리고 우리도 우리를 돕는 보이지 않는 영웅들을 찾아내어 감사할 수 있기를 바랍니다.

 
• 사랑하는 하나님 아버지, 저를 만드시고 제 특유의 재능을 주신 것에 감사드립니다. 주님과 다른 사람들을 충성스럽게 섬기게 하시고, 저를 돕기 위해 보내주신 이들을 알아볼 수 있게 도와주소서.
하나님은 보이지 않는 영웅들을 언제나 보고 계신다.

8. 그 때에 아말렉이 와서 이스라엘과 르비딤에서 싸우니라
9. 모세가 여호수아에게 이르되 우리를 위하여 사람들을 택하여 나가서 아말렉과 싸우라 내일 내가 하나님의 지팡이를 손에 잡고 산 꼭대기에 서리라
10. 여호수아가 모세의 말대로 행하여 아말렉과 싸우고 모세와 아론과 훌은 산 꼭대기에 올라가서
11. 모세가 손을 들면 이스라엘이 이기고 손을 내리면 아말렉이 이기더니
12. 모세의 팔이 피곤하매 그들이 돌을 가져다가 모세의 아래에 놓아 그가 그 위에 앉게 하고 아론과 훌이 한 사람은 이쪽에서, 한 사람은 저쪽에서 모세의 손을 붙들어 올렸더니 그 손이 해가 지도록 내려오지 아니한지라
13. 여호수아가 칼날로 아말렉과 그 백성을 쳐서 무찌르니라
14. 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 이것을 책에 기록하여 기념하게 하고 여호수아의 귀에 외워 들리라 내가 아말렉을 없이하여 천하에서 기억도 못 하게 하리라
15. 모세가 제단을 쌓고 그 이름을 여호와 닛시라 하고
16. 이르되 여호와께서 맹세하시기를 여호와가 아말렉과 더불어 대대로 싸우리라 하셨다 하였더라


Unseen Heroes

Aaron and Hur held [Moses’s] hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. Exodus 17:12

Stories in the Bible can make us stop and wonder. For instance, when Moses led God’s people into the Promised Land and the Amalekites attacked, how did he know to go to the top of the hill and hold up God’s staff? (Ex. 17:8–15). We aren’t told, but we learn that when Moses raised his hands, the Israelites would win the battle, and when he lowered them, the Amalekites would win. When Moses got tired, his brother Aaron and another man, Hur, held up Moses’s arms so the Israelites could triumph.
We aren’t told much about Hur, but he played a crucial role at this point in Israel’s history. This reminds us that unseen heroes matter, that supporters and those who encourage leaders play a key and often overlooked role. Leaders may be the ones mentioned in the history books or lauded on social media, but the quiet, faithful witness of those who serve in other ways is not overlooked by the Lord. He sees the person who intercedes daily in prayer for friends and family. He sees the woman who puts away the chairs each Sunday in church. He sees the neighbor who reaches out with a word of encouragement.
God is using us, even if our task feels insignificant. And may we notice and thank any unseen heroes who help us. Amy Boucher Pye

 
• Dear Father, thank You for creating me and gifting me in my own unique way. Help me to serve You and others faithfully and to appreciate those You have sent to help me.
Unseen heroes are always seen by God.

8. The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.
9. Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands."
10. So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill.
11. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
12. When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up -- one on one side, one on the other -- so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
13. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
14. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven."
15. Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.
16. He said, "For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation."
