기억의 선물 [ 창세기 40:1 - 40:14 ]
술 맡은 관원장이 요셉을 기억하지 못하고 그를 잊었더라 - 창세기 40:23
신학교 시절에 양로원에서 일한 적이 있었습니다. 양로원의 어른들과 이야기를 나누다 보면, 어느 시점에 가서는 거의 모든 사람들이 현재의 삶이 외롭고, 연배들보다 너무 오래 살았다고 이야기하곤 했습니다. 대부분은 이 세상을 떠날 때 어느 누가 그들을 기억해줄지 염려스러워 했습니다.
사실 나이 든 노인들만 외로워하거나 잊힌 채 산다고 느끼는 것은 아닙니다. 사실상 우리 중 많은 사람들이 주위의 상황이 좋든 좋지 못하든 갇힌 채 홀로 남겨졌다고 느낍니다. 우리는 심지어 구약성경에 나오는 인물인 요셉의 경우처럼 마땅히 기억해줘야 할 사람들조차 기억해주지 않는 경우를 당하기도 합니다.
창세기 40장은 요셉이 감옥에 갇혔을 때의 경험에 대해 이야기하고 있습니다. 요셉이 예견한 대로 술을 맡은 관원장은 감옥에서 풀려나 전직을 회복하여 왕을 다시 섬기게 되었습니다(9-13절). 감옥에서 풀려나면 요셉의 사정을 바로에게 이야기해줄 것을 부탁했었지만 술을 맡은 관원장은 요셉을 잊어버렸습니다(14, 23절).
우리는 사람들이 우리를 잊고 있다고 느낄지 모릅니다. 그러나 하나님이 요셉을 기억하신 것처럼 우리는 잊힌 것이 아닙니다(42:9-13). 예수님이 하나님 우편에 앉아계시고, 우리의 구주가 중보자가 되어주시므로 우리의 기도는 반드시 왕의 보좌에 상달됩니다. 외롭게 느껴질 때, 우리와 영원히 함께 하신다고 하신 주님의 약속을 확신하며 편히 쉴 수 있음을 기억합시다(마 28:20).
주님, 요셉이 했던 것처럼, 내가 아주 잊혔다고 느낄 때에
오히려 다른 사람들을 돌볼 수 있게 해주소서.
외롭고 상처 받은 자들을 기도 가운데 주님 앞으로 이끌어오지 못하는
“술 맡은 관원장” 같은 사람이 결코 되지 않게 하소서.
주님은 절대로 그의 백성을 버리거나 잊지 않으신다.
창세기 40:1-14,23
[1] 그 후에 애굽 왕의 술 맡은 자와 떡 굽는 자가 그들의 주인 애굽 왕에게 범죄한지라
[2] 바로가 그 두 관원장 곧 술 맡은 관원장과 떡 굽는 관원장에게 노하여
[3] 그들을 친위대장의 집 안에 있는 옥에 가두니 곧 요셉이 갇힌 곳이라
[4] 친위대장이 요셉에게 그들을 수종들게 하매 요셉이 그들을 섬겼더라 그들이 갇힌 지 여러 날이라
[5] 옥에 갇힌 애굽 왕의 술 맡은 자와 떡 굽는 자 두 사람이 하룻밤에 꿈을 꾸니 각기 그 내용이 다르더라
[6] 아침에 요셉이 들어가 보니 그들에게 근심의 빛이 있는지라
[7] 요셉이 그 주인의 집에 자기와 함께 갇힌 바로의 신하들에게 묻되 어찌하여 오늘 당신들의 얼굴에 근심의 빛이 있나이까
[8] 그들이 그에게 이르되 우리가 꿈을 꾸었으나 이를 해석할 자가 없도다 요셉이 그들에게 이르되 해석은 하나님께 있지 아니하니이까 청하건대 내게 이르소서
[9] 술 맡은 관원장이 그의 꿈을 요셉에게 말하여 이르되 내가 꿈에 보니 내 앞에 포도나무가 있는데
[10] 그 나무에 세 가지가 있고 싹이 나서 꽃이 피고 포도송이가 익었고
[11] 내 손에 바로의 잔이 있기로 내가 포도를 따서 그 즙을 바로의 잔에 짜서 그 잔을 바로의 손에 드렸노라
[12] 요셉이 그에게 이르되 그 해석이 이러하니 세 가지는 사흘이라
[13] 지금부터 사흘 안에 바로가 당신의 머리를 들고 당신의 전직을 회복시키리니 당신이 그 전에 술 맡은 자가 되었을 때에 하던 것 같이 바로의 잔을 그의 손에 드리게 되리이다
[14] 당신이 잘 되시거든 나를 생각하고 내게 은혜를 베풀어서 내 사정을 바로에게 아뢰어 이 집에서 나를 건져 주소서

The Gift Of Remembering [ Genesis 40:1 - 40:14 ]
Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him. — Genesis 40:23
During seminary, I worked in a nursing home. As I spent time talking to these men and women, at some point nearly every patient would describe the loneliness of their present lives and the realization that they were outliving their peers. Most wondered if anyone would remember them when they passed from this life.
It isn’t just the elderly who can feel lonely and forgotten. In fact, many of us feel trapped and alone, set aside by circumstances fair and unfair. Sometimes we even experience what the Old Testament character Joseph did: people failing to remember us when there’s every reason they should.
Genesis 40 describes Joseph’s experiences as he’s trapped in prison. The cupbearer had been freed and returned to the king’s service, just as Joseph told him would happen (vv.9-13). Joseph had asked to be mentioned to Pharaoh, but the cupbearer forgot him (vv.14,23).
We may feel forgotten. Yet, like Joseph, we are not(42:9-13). Jesus sits at the right hand of God, and our prayers reach the throne of the King without fail because our Savior is our Mediator. When we feel alone, let’s remember to rest in the confidence of Jesus’ promise to be with us forever(Matt.28:20).
Lord, let me be found serving others, as Josephdid, in those hours when I feel most forgotten.May I never be the “cupbearer” who fails to bringthe lonely and hurting to Your attention in prayer.
Jesus never abandons or forgets His own.
Genesis 40:1-14,23
[1] Some time later, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt offended their master, the king of Egypt.
[2] Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,
[3] and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the same prison where Joseph was confined.
[4] The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he attended them. After they had been in custody for some time,
[5] each of the two men--the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were being held in prison--had a dream the same night, and each dream had a meaning of its own.
[6] When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected.
[7] So he asked Pharaoh's officials who were in custody with him in his master's house, "Why are your faces so sad today?"
[8] "We both had dreams," they answered, "but there is no one to interpret them." Then Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams."
[9] So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said to him, "In my dream I saw a vine in front of me,
[10] and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes.
[11] Pharaoh's cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup and put the cup in his hand."
[12] "This is what it means," Joseph said to him. "The three branches are three days.
[13] Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh's cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.
[14] But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison.
[23] The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.

술 맡은 관원장이 요셉을 기억하지 못하고 그를 잊었더라...
창세기를 공부하면서 나눈바 있지만, 인간은 결코 믿고 의지할 존재가 못된다는 사실입니다.
술 맡은 관원장이 출옥하여 왕 앞에 서는 그 직무가 회복되는 행운을 맞으면서 감옥에서 함께 고생할 때
자신에게 희망의 멧세지를 주었던 요셉을 까맣게 잊어버리고 말았습니다. 이것이 인간입니다.
그래서 주님께서 "너희는 인생을 의지하지 말라....." 고 언명하셨던 것입니다.
비록 술 맡은 관원장은 요셉을 잊었을지라도 하나님은 당신의 백성을 잊지 않으셨습니다.
때가 되매 요셉을 일으켜서 총리의 자리에 앉히셨습니다. 당신의 뜻을 이루시기 위해서 말입니다.
하나님만이 우리가 의지할 수 있는 분입니다.
하나님만이 우리를 기억하고 계십니다.
이것이 우리에게 소망, 능력입니다.
