첫 번째 병적 조사
1 이스라엘 자손이 이집트 땅에서 나온 지 이 년이 되던 해 1)둘째 달 초하루에, 주께서 시내 광야의 2)회막에서 모세에게 말씀하셨다.
2 "3)너희는 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중을 각 가문별, 가족별로 인구를 조사하여라. 남자의 경우는 그 머리 수대로 하나하나 모두 올려 명단을 만들어라.
3 너는 아론과 함께, 이스라엘 사람 가운데서 스무 살이 넘어 군대에 입대할 수 있는 남자들을, 모두 각 부대별로 세어라.
4 각 지파에서 한 사람씩, 곧 한 가족에서 지도자가 한 사람씩 나오게 하여 너희를 돕게 하여라.
5 다음은 너희 곁에 서서 너희를 도울 사람들의 이름이다.
르우벤 지파에서는 스데울의 아들 엘리술이요,
6 시므온 지파에서는 수리삿대의 아들 슬루미엘이요,
7 유다 지파에서는 암미나답의 아들 나손이요,
8 잇사갈 지파에서는 수알의 아들 느다넬이요,
9 스불론 지파에서는 헬론의 아들 엘리압이요,
10 요셉의 아들들 가운데, 에브라임 지파에서는 암미훗의 아들 엘리사마요, 므낫세 지파에서는 브다술의 아들 가말리엘이요,
11 베냐민 지파에서는 기드오니의 아들 아비단이요,
12 단 지파에서는 암미삿대의 아들 아히에셀이요,
13 아셀 지파에서는 오그란의 아들 바기엘이요,
14 갓 지파에서는 4)르우엘의 아들 엘리아삽이요,
15 납달리 지파에서는 에난의 아들 아히라이다."
16 이들은 회중이 추대하여, 조상 때부터 내려온 각 지파의 지도자가 된 사람들이다. 이 사람들이 바로 이스라엘 군대 각 부대의 지휘관이다.
17 모세와 아론은 임명받은 이 사람들을 거느리고
18 둘째 달 초하루에 전체 회중을 불러모았다. 회중들은 모두 가문별, 가족별로 등록하였다. 스무 살이 넘은 남자는, 모두 그 머리 수대로 하나하나 명단에 올렸다.
19 이것은 주께서 모세에게 명하신 대로 한 것이다. 모세가 시내 광야에서 그들의 수를 세었다.
20 이스라엘의 맏아들 르우벤의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로, 그 머리 수대로, 하나하나 명단에 올렸다.
21 르우벤 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 사만 육천오백 명이다.
22 시므온의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로, 그 머리 수대로, 하나하나 명단에 올렸다.
23 시므온 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 오만 구천삼백 명이다.
24 갓의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
25 갓 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 사만 오천육백오십 명이다.
26 유다의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
27 유다 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 칠만 사천육백 명이다.
28 잇사갈의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
29 잇사갈 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 오만 사천사백 명이다.
30 스불론의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
31 스불론 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 오만 칠천사백 명이다.
32 요셉의 아들 에브라임의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
33 에브라임 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 사만 오백 명이다.
34 므낫세의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
35 므낫세 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 삼만 이천이백 명이다.
36 베냐민의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
37 베냐민 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 삼만 오천사백 명이다.
38 단의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
39 단 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 육만 이천칠백 명이다.
40 아셀의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
41 아셀 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 사만 천오백 명이다.
42 납달리의 자손 가운데서, 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 남자를, 각각 가문별, 가족별로 명단에 올렸다.
43 납달리 지파에서 등록된 사람의 수는 오만 삼천사백 명이다.
44 이 사람들은, 모세와 아론이, 각 집안에서 한 사람씩 뽑힌 이스라엘의 열두 지도자들과 함께 조사하여 등록시킨 사람들이다.
45 이스라엘 군대에 입대할 수 있는, 스무 살이 넘은 모든 이스라엘 자손이, 각 집안별로 등록되었다.
46 등록된 이들은 모두 육십만 삼천오백오십 명이다.
47 그러나 레위 사람은, 조상의 지파별로, 그들과 함께 등록되지 않았다.
레위 지파의 병역 면제
48 주께서 모세에게 이렇게 분부하여 이르셨다.
49 "레위 지파만은 인구조사에서 빼고 이스라엘 징집자 명단에 올리지 말아라.
50 그 대신 너는 레위 사람을 시켜, 5)증거궤가 보관된 성막을 보살피게 하여라. 모든 기구와 그 안에 있는 모든 비품을 그들이 관리할 것이다. 그들은 성막을 옮기는 일과 그 안에 있는 모든 기구를 옮기는 일을 맡을 것이다. 그들은 성막을 돌보며, 성막 둘레에 진을 치고 살아야 한다.
51 성막을 옮길 때마다 레위 사람이 그것을 거두어야 하고, 성막을 칠 때에는 레위 사람만이 그것을 세워야 한다. 다른 사람들이 거기에 다가갔다가는 죽을 것이다.
52 이스라엘 자손은 각기 부대별로, 각기 자기 진 안의 부대기를 중심으로 장막을 쳐야 한다.
53 그러나 레위 사람은 5)증거궤가 보관된 성막 둘레에 진을 쳐서, 나의 진노가 이스라엘 자손의 회중에게 내리지 않게 해야 한다. 레위 사람은 증거궤가 보관된 성막을 보호할 임무를 맡는다."
54 이스라엘 자손은, 주께서 모세에게 명하신 모든 것을 다 그대로 하였다
The Census
1 The Lord spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the Desert of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of Egypt. He said: 2 “Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one. 3 You and Aaron are to count according to their divisions all the men in Israel who are twenty years old or more and able to serve in the army. 4 One man from each tribe, each of them the head of his family, is to help you. 5 These are the names of the men who are to assist you:
from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;
6 from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;
7 from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab;
8 from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar;
9 from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon;
10 from the sons of Joseph:
from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud;
from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;
11 from Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;
12 from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;
13 from Asher, Pagiel son of Okran;
14 from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;
15 from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.”
16 These were the men appointed from the community, the leaders of their ancestral tribes. They were the heads of the clans of Israel.
17 Moses and Aaron took these men whose names had been specified, 18 and they called the whole community together on the first day of the second month. The people registered their ancestry by their clans and families, and the men twenty years old or more were listed by name, one by one, 19 as the Lord commanded Moses. And so he counted them in the Desert of Sinai:
20 From the descendants of Reuben the firstborn son of Israel:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, one by one, according to the records of their clans and families. 21 The number from the tribe of Reuben was 46,500.
22 From the descendants of Simeon:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were counted and listed by name, one by one, according to the records of their clans and families. 23 The number from the tribe of Simeon was 59,300.
24 From the descendants of Gad:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 25 The number from the tribe of Gad was 45,650.
26 From the descendants of Judah:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 27 The number from the tribe of Judah was 74,600.
28 From the descendants of Issachar:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 29 The number from the tribe of Issachar was 54,400.
30 From the descendants of Zebulun:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 31 The number from the tribe of Zebulun was 57,400.
32 From the sons of Joseph:
From the descendants of Ephraim:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 33 The number from the tribe of Ephraim was 40,500.
34 From the descendants of Manasseh:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 35 The number from the tribe of Manasseh was 32,200.
36 From the descendants of Benjamin:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 37 The number from the tribe of Benjamin was 35,400.
38 From the descendants of Dan:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 39 The number from the tribe of Dan was 62,700.
40 From the descendants of Asher:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 41 The number from the tribe of Asher was 41,500.
42 From the descendants of Naphtali:
All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. 43 The number from the tribe of Naphtali was 53,400.
44 These were the men counted by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, each one representing his family. 45 All the Israelites twenty years old or more who were able to serve in Israel’s army were counted according to their families. 46 The total number was 603,550.
47 The ancestral tribe of the Levites, however, was not counted along with the others. 48 The Lord had said to Moses: 49 “You must not count the tribe of Levi or include them in the census of the other Israelites. 50 Instead, appoint the Levites to be in charge of the tabernacle of the covenant law—over all its furnishings and everything belonging to it. They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they are to take care of it and encamp around it. 51 Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall do it. Anyone else who approaches it is to be put to death. 52 The Israelites are to set up their tents by divisions, each of them in their own camp under their standard. 53 The Levites, however, are to set up their tents around the tabernacle of the covenant law so that my wrath will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the covenant law.”
54 The Israelites did all this just as the Lord commanded Moses.

44 These were the men counted by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, each one representing his family. 45 All the Israelites twenty years old or more who were able to serve in Israel’s army were counted according to their families. 46 The total number was 603,550.
47 The ancestral tribe of the Levites, however, was not counted along with the others. 48 The Lord had said to Moses: 49 “You must not count the tribe of Levi or include them in the census of the other Israelites. 50 Instead, appoint the Levites to be in charge of the tabernacle of the covenant law—over all its furnishings and everything belonging to it. They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they are to take care of it and encamp around it. 51 Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall do it. 시내산에서 모세를 만나주시고 불러주시고 또 십계명을 주시고 성막을 지을 것을 명령하셨던 하나님께서 이젠 성막에서 모세를 부르시고 말씀해주셨습니다. 하나님께서 자신이 거하시도록 성막을 만들라고 명령하신대로 이집트 땅에서 나온 지 이년이 되던 해 첫째 달 초하루에 성막을 완성한 (출 40:17) 이후 딱 한달이 지난 날이었습니다. 이스라엘 은 성막을 지은 후 이 한달동안 이미 제사제도에 대한 지시도 받았고 제사를 수행할 제사장들도 이미 임명하였습니다. (레위기 8장) 그러니까, 성막을 완성했을 뿐 아니라, 제사제도와 제사장등 하나님을 예배할 모든 것이 준비된 후에 하나님께서 모세를 성막에서 부르신 것입니다.
이제는 더 이상 하나님께서 시내산에서 말씀하시지 않고, 성막가운데 거하시며 이스라엘의 예배를 받으시고 이스라엘에게 말씀하시는 하나님이 되신 것입니다. 성경을 문자적으로 번역한 번역에 의하면, 요한복음 1:14절은 예수님의 오심을 “말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 장막으로 거하셨다”라고 표현합니다. 또, 예수님은 우리의 새 성전되시는 분이십니다. (요 2:19-21) 하나님께서 성막에서 모세를 부르시고 말씀하셨던 것처럼, 하나님께서는 오늘날 예수님 안에서 우리를 부르시고 또 말씀하시는 분이십니다.
그렇다면, 예수님께 나아가는 것이 하나님께 나아가는 것이라고 믿습니다. 그 예수님과 날마다 순간마다 가까이 나아가므로 하나님께 가까이 나아가는 삶을 살기를 원합니다.
주님, 사랑하는 주님! 주님께 날마다 그리고 더욱 가까이 나아가게 하소서. 나의 사랑하는 주님! 주님을 사랑합니다.
