천지가 그를 찬송할 것이요 바다와 그 중의 모든 생물도 그리할지로다 - 시편 69:34
최근에 나는 지구상의 모든 생명체 중 80 퍼센트가 바다 속에 있다고 하는 광고판을 보았습니다. 그 생명체의 대부분이 우리 눈에 보이지 않기 때문에 그 엄청난 숫자를 이해하기가 쉽지 않습니다.
이것을 생각해보면서 하나님의 창조가 우리가 상식적으로 인식하고 있는 것보다 얼마나 더 위대한지를 깨닫게 되었습니다. 우리는 장엄한 산들과 석양의 전경을 보면서는 쉽게 경탄하지만, 더 주의 깊게 연구하고 시험해보아야만 알 수 있는 세밀한 부분에서의 하나님의 놀라운 솜씨는 잘 보지 못합니다. 그 창조 중 많은 것들이 바다에 숨겨져 있거나, 혹은 너무 작아서 우리의 육안으로는 볼 수 없습니다. 현미경을 통해서만 볼 수 있는 작은 것으로부터 탐색되지 않은 우주의 끝에 이르기까지 모든 것이 우리의 창조주의 작품입니다. 보이든지 보이지 않든지 그 멋진 구조들 속에는 하나님의 창의적인 영광이 드러나 있습니다(롬 1:20).
우리가 창조의 경이로움을 알아갈수록, 그것은 언제나 우리의 시선을 창조주 그분께로 향하게 하고, 그분을 경배하라고 합니다. 시편기자가 말합니다. “천지가 그를 찬송할 것이요 바다와 그 중의 모든 생물도 그리할지로다”(시 69:34). 창조물 그 자체가 창조주를 찬양한다면, 우리는 당연히 그 찬양에 동참할 수 있고 또 그렇게 해야 합니다. 우리가 섬기는 하나님은 얼마나 위대하신지요!
주 하나님, 지으신 모든 세계
내 마음 속에 그리어 볼 때
하늘의 별 울려 퍼지는 뇌성
주님의 권능 우주에 찼네
창조의 신비는 우리에게
“위대하신 하나님!”이라고 감탄하게 한다.
시편 69:29-36
[29] 오직 나는 가난하고 슬프오니 하나님이여 주의 구원으로 나를 높이소서
[30] 내가 노래로 하나님의 이름을 찬송하며 감사함으로 하나님을 위대하시다 하리니
[31] 이것이 소 곧 뿔과 굽이 있는 황소를 드림보다 여호와를 더욱 기쁘시게 함이 될 것이라
[32] 곤고한 자가 이를 보고 기뻐하나니 하나님을 찾는 너희들아 너희 마음을 소생하게 할지어다
[33] 여호와는 궁핍한 자의 소리를 들으시며 자기로 말미암아 갇힌 자를 멸시하지 아니하시나니
[34] 천지가 그를 찬송할 것이요 바다와 그 중의 모든 생물도 그리할지로다
[35] 하나님이 시온을 구원하시고 유다 성읍들을 건설하시리니 무리가 거기에 살며 소유를 삼으리로다
[36] 그의 종들의 후손이 또한 이를 상속하고 그의 이름을 사랑하는 자가 그 중에 살리로다

The Other Eighty Percent [ Psalms 69:29 - 69:36 ]
Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them. — Psalm 69:34
Recently I saw a billboard stating that 80 percent of all life on Earth is found in the seas. That staggering number is difficult to process, largely because most of that life is out of sight.
As I considered this, it reminded me of how much greater God’s creation is than we typically appreciate. While we can easily have our breath taken away by a majestic mountain range or a panoramic sunset, we sometimes fail to see His extraordinary work in the details that require more careful study and examination. Not only is much of God’s creation hidden by the oceans, but other parts are also too small for our eyes to observe. From the microscopically small to the unsearched reaches of the universe, it is all the work of our Creator. In those magnificent structures—seen and unseen—God’s creative glory is revealed(Rom.1:20).
As we grow to understand the wonder of creation, it must always point us to the Creator Himself—and call us to worship Him. As the psalmist said, “Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them”(Ps.69:34). If creation itself gives praise to the Creator, we can and should certainly join the chorus. What a mighty God we serve!

The wonder of creation causes us to say, “What a wonderful God!”
Psalm 69:29-36
[29] I am in pain and distress; may your salvation, O God, protect me.
[30] I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
[31] This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs.
[32] The poor will see and be glad--you who seek God, may your hearts live!
[33] The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people.
[34] Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them,
[35] for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it;
[36] the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
