1901년에 제정된 노벨상은 세계에서 가장 존경받는 상 중의 하나입니다. 매해 물리학상, 화학상, 생리의학상, 문학상, 그리고 평화상 부문별로 상이 수여됩니다. 노벨상은 스웨덴의 화학자이자 기술자였던 알프레드 노벨(Alfred Nobel)을 기념하여 제정되었습니다. 노벨은 자신의 재산을 노벨상을 세우는 데 써 달라는 유언을 남겼습니다. 역사에 한 획을 그었던 거물들 중에 노벨상 수상자가 여럿 있었습니다. 알베르트 아인슈타인(Albert Einstein)은 노벨 물리학상을, 마리 큐리(Marie Curie)는 노벨 화학상을, 그리고 어니스트 밀러 헤밍웨이(Ernest Miller Hemingway)는 노벨 문학상을 수상했습니다. 노벨 평화상 수상자로는 넬슨 만델라(Nelson Mandela), 마더 테레사(Mother Theresa), 그리고 보다 최근에는 미 대통령 버락 오바마(Barack Obama)에 이르기까지 다양한 배경의 사람들을 볼 수 있습니다. 한국 최초이자 유일한 노벨상 수상자로는 평화상을 수상한 고(故) 김대중 대통령이 있습니다. 한국의 유명한 시인 고은은 노벨 문학상 후보에 여러 차례 올랐지만, 아직 수상을 하지는 못했습니다.

Talk about the Nobel Prize.



The Nobel Prize is one of the most coveted awards in the world that first started up in1901. There’s one award given annually in the categories of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. It was created following the death of Swedish chemist and engineer, Alfred Nobel. He started in his will that he wished for his estate to be used in establishing the Nobel Prizes. Some of the biggest movers and shakers in history became Nobel Prize laureates. Albert Einstein won the Nobel Prize for Physics, Marie Curie for Chemistry, and Ernest Miller Hemingway for Literature. Nobel Peace Prize laureates include people of all backgrounds, such as Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa, and more recently, US President Barack Obama. Korea’s first and only Nobel Prize winner thus far is late former President Kim Dae-jung in the category of Peace. Famous Korean poet, Ko Un, was up for a Nobel Prize in Literature a few times, but has yet to seal the deal with a win.
