한국 경제 성장의 주요 견인차 중 하나로 철강 산업을 꼽을 수 있습니다. 어떤 면에서는 철강이야말로 호황을 누리고 있는 한국의 조선 및 자동차 산업의 근간이라고 할 수 있습니다. 철이 없다면, 배를 어떻게 건조하고 자동차를 어떻게 생산하겠습니까? 이처럼 타 산업의 필요를 충족시키기 위해 정부에서는 1970년대에 포스코 제철소를 설립하였습니다. 현재 이 회사는 포항과 광양에 두 개의 제철소를 두고 있습니다. 이 거대 철강 기업은 한국의 제철 산업이 점진적으로 발전하는 데 큰 역할을 하였습니다. 한국은 2009년도에 세계 철강 업계 6위에 올랐습니다. 업계 선두 주자들과의 격차를 줄여가면서 포스코는 2010년 기준으로 세계 4위 규모의 철강 기업으로 성장하였습니다. 2010년 한 해만 한국의 총 철강 생산량은 5,250만 톤에 달했습니다.

Talk about the steel industry of Korea.



One of the major locomotives of the Korean economy is the steel industry. In some ways, it can be considered the backbone of the booming shipbuilding and automobile industries in Korea. Without steel, how can ships be built and cars be manufactured? To meet the needs of these other industries, the government built the POSCO steel mill in the 1970s. There are currently two steel mills belonging to the company, located in Pohang and Gwangyang. The steel giant played a role in the gradual growth of Korea’s steel industry. Korea was ranked sixth in the global steel industry as of 2009. Zoning in on the big players of the industry, as of 2010, POSCO was the fourth largest steel producer in the world. In 2010 alone, Korea’s total steel production grew to 52.5 million tons.
