[Explain about cell phone numbers in Korea.]

Cell phone numbers in Korea are dived into three clumps. In America, the first three digits of a cell number would be the area code, but not in Korea. The first three numbers used to be one of the following: 011,016,017,019; and each set of numbers indicated who your cell phone service provider was.

However, due to changes in the last few years, all new numbers are in the process of being changed to start with 010. Now, to accommodate the influx of new subscribers, the middle section of the cell phone number has gone from three digits to four. The last clump of numbers is comprised of four digits, which can be chosen by the user.

Korea's three main mobile carriers are in a never-ending competition to attract new customers and keep old ones loyal. Free calls between designated numbers, discounts on late-night calls, and family package deals are all special perks that providers use to try to cater to customers' specific needs.
