Faceless actors in movies and dramas that deserve more praise are stuntpeople. No matter how much effort they put into a scene; in the end, the credit goes elsewhere. However, with the explosive popularity of the recent TV drama “Secret Garden,” stuntpeople are getting more recognition for their hard work. This is because the main heroine, Gil Ra-im, played by Ha Ji-won, was a stuntwoman. People in the industry say that the drama led to an influx of inquiries from students on becoming a stuntperson. Most importantly, you have to be physically fit for the job. Although a martial arts background can help, it’s not necessary. You also need psychological strength to endure the toil of the job. There are about 400 to 500 active stuntmen risking their necks in the name of entertainment in Korea. There are far fewer stuntwomen; a handful of main ones cover the big gigs.
