Standing in line
• Uh, Sumi, you're too close to that lady! Back up a little.
• What for? (takes a step back)
• Why were you doing that? If she had moved a little backward, she would have bumped into you.
• I just didn't want anyone to cut in front of me.
• Nobody's going to cut in front of you. You got to be aware of personal space here. If you get inside someone's bubble, they'll feel uncomfortable and may get mad at you.
• Americans are strange.
• Standing two inches behind someone is strange.
• I guess every culture is different.

Hollywood legend Charlton Heston dies
Hollywood legend Charlton Heston has died at age 84 in his home with his wife at his side, following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. About 300 people attended the funeral, including family members, politicians and actors. Heston was one of the biggest box-office draws of the 1950s through the 1970s, often playing legendary leaders or ordinary men thrown into heroic struggles. With his muscular build, well-boned face and sonorous voice, Heston proved the ideal star during the period when Hollywood was depicting the religious and historical past. Heston won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing Ben-Hur.

What is your opinion on corporal punishment at Korean schools?
I have to say I strongly oppose any form of corporal punishment at schools. The main reason is that it can have long-lasting psychological side effects on students that last much longer than any physical pain. Plus, I don't see how physically punishing students solves academic problems, such as missing homework. It would be much better to give students detention instead. In my own experience, corporal punishment was really detrimental. Once in high school, I was slapped in the face by my homeroom teacher because I was loud in class. I was so humiliated and traumatized by the event that I still remember that incident to this day. Once again, I believe that physical punishments at schools should be eradicated by all means.
Expression of the day
I was totally thrown off.
A: Did you hear that Ricky is leaving the company?
B: Yes, I heard that. I was totally thrown off.
A: Me, too. He used to like working here so much.
B: I know. Word has it that he got a great offer from another company.
